*spoilers*?

Because I never thought I could love a superhero film that much. It’s sort of weird that only two films have ever made me cry and one of them has this scene.

The other is this

Kinja'd!!!

Update:

I just re-watched it. I forgot it ends with The Man Comes Around.

Between that and the father daughter thing, this movie plays me like a fiddle.

I have never seen Ikiru “To Live” is it that good?

I also have yet to see Logan, but I will eventually

I think it’s far and away the best Kurosawa film and one of the best films ever made. It’s about a widowed civil servant and how he comes to terms with learning that he’s terminally ill. (Not a spoiler, since that’s basically where the film starts). I don’t know of another film that so perfectly encapsulates mortality and the value of living.

YT captions typed “roar” just like that the first time Logan yells in that scene. A bit jarring from the immersion.

I haven’t seen Logan even though he’s the only character I liked in the X-men movies because I don’t see how they can keep milking the subject matter with an actor who is clearly aging playing a character who doesn’t age. I have heard that the Logan is now mortal because reasons, but that doesn’t dispel the vibe I get that they’ve jumped the shark and should have let the character fade away.

If it makes you feel better about seeing it, my understanding is that because this was the last one Jackman was going to star in, they had sort of carte blanche to do what they wanted. I resisted seeing it because I figured it was another crappy Wolverine film, but I was so very wrong.

Without spoiling it, I can promise you that as a parent, it’s going to resonate with you.

It was definitely derivative, but it was derivative in a way that a superhero film has no right to be.

I’m with you, but I just watched it a week or two ago. It was a different movie than all the previous PG-13 movies, which was a bit jarring. But I thought it was good. If you like Wolverine, you’ve got to see it sooner or later.

I tried to ignore accidentally seeing the big spoiler of The Force Awakens , but I failed to forget it when I got around to watching the movie. Had to double my efforts after that.

Logan was really great, though! The girl was terrific, and it was good to see Charles and Logan interact outside of PG-13 limits. I started to get a little worried about the movie when I saw the X-24 body parts in the lab; I was dreading that they were going to do something awfully lame like XMO-Wolverine ’s Deadpool. But no, they did a good job to avoid that. I found the movie wholly satisfying.

The setup for it was nice with the “I haven’t had this nice of a night in a long time,” so you knew something bad was coming, but it just didn’t sit right with me to kill him off in that way. Maybe I’m sore because I’m a huge Star Trek nerd and love Patrick Stewart but I wish they gave the character a better sendoff than he got.

I’m in my 40's, grew up on X-Men (seriously, I have all of the issues from the beginning of the Dark Phoenix saga through to 250-ish), and all of the craziness that came with that territory (new mutants, Excalibur, X-Factor, etc) and am still coming to terms with the retconned origin stories of many of the characters I grew up with.

Logan was largely the Logan I grew up with. Just older, and coming to terms with his increasing frailty as mortality finally comes calling... and thanks to some odd happenstance, I do know pieces of the X-23 saga, and she was introduced fairly well.

It’s hard to say whether Logan or Ant-Man was the best MCU movie of all time, but it’s damn good.

I liked it, but my head cannon is that it was an alternate universe from the other X-Men films. If not then it is hard to invest in characters that you know will all be dead in 10 years.

Hackman and Stewart were great and it feels like they had fun.

Ant-Man was a crazy movie, and I didn’t expect much from it, but it over-delivered in certain areas. And it helps with the Avengers movies.

And Batman transcends all comic interests. When people say they liked comics but didn’t like Batman, I start to question things. =)

I haven’t read all the comments so apologies if I’m repeating any points already been made.. But to each their own on what they’re looking for with the super hero genre but I’m legitimately confused as to the overwhelming praise “Logan” is getting as a whole... Yes, we finally got to really see what those claws can do on the big screen the way we wanted... But the actual story-line among other key aspects which most if not all of the best comic-related to date have in common seem completely absent...

1. Villain? I had to Google just now to remember “Pierce’s” name... If you double the screen time he has in the TRAILERS that likely exceeds his actual screen time in the movie. The brains behind the operation who was the scientist/weapon x leader had even less presence... The overall “conflict” of the movie was confusing at best.. I just felt I spent 95% of the movie waiting for anything to actually develop which would clearly elevate/inspire “Logan” to give us that final emotional climax we all know he had in him..

Now clearly Jackman hit every note perfectly when he cemented what will be as hard a role to recast as Heath Ledger’s Joker but as well done as the spirit of Wolverine exited before us all on the big screen - it kind of had a forced burden to me of having to be a big enough moment that to carry the entire movie.

In addition - the father/daughter connection felt like almost a side-note in the end.. This wasn’t his long lost daughter we never knew he had with Jean Grey or even an unknown character... She was a clone... And hey, I still look away when C-3P0 gets shot up in Empire so it’s not like they couldn’t have written it where you were more emotionally invested but again I never felt they scratched the surface of creating or even attempting to create an emotional dynamic from what appeared to be a major story-line...

I really do hate focusing on what’s arguably the “negative” but its only motivated from an eagerness to see/read more about these aspects of the film from the overwhelming audience that got Logan an existing 91% on RT. My only thought is I clearly missed out on what this film was trying to accomplish..

I will disagree on X-24. Wolverine has a rich history of villains. And the best they can do is bring in a Clone? Also, this clone made all the children useless because they were able to control this clone unlike the children.

Sabertooth, Lady Deathstrike, Omega (Motherfucking) Red, Wild Child, Cyber and so many others could’ve been a better villain than X-24.

Beyond X-24, I liked the movie. I just sighed at how lazy X-24 was. “Oh look, a cloned younger version of the main character...this hasn’t been done to death already.”

Yeah, I can see where you’re coming from there. I too have been dying to see Omega Red, though I’m not sure that  Logan would have been the right movie for it.

Anyway, what I liked about X-24 is how it made sense to the story. The Weapon X program was nearly one of Alkali’s greatest achievements (except for how it wall went wrong), so they tried again (to a degree) with Laura. And when that plan went south, they took everything they learned thus far and applied it to X-24.

The story is a bit more realistic that way, without radically changing the story to involve the Russians, or shoehorning in other characters that don’t really belong. I guess they could have found a way to work in Sabretooth, though... But there’s something poetic about Logan having to fight “himself”.

I believe it’s sorta kinda hinted that the X1-X3 movies might be movies within the logan universe, after all they are bloodless, and the comics are a thing in Logan so that is my head cannon.

Kinja'd!!! Azrek > Urambo Tauro
07/06/2017 at 11:33

Kinja'd!!!0

I think X-24 took away from X-23 though. X-23 was a clone of Logan as well, but was more lost and angry like he was in previous films. And in the comics it was stated they couldn’t clone Logan as a male, so they made a female.

Logan has always had internal conflicts. I don’t think physically and metaphorically fighting himself really fit the context here. I think bringing in someone like Cyber or Pierce (Who was a fucking cybernetic Doctor not a goon) would’ve been a better idea. Pierce made Cyilla as well. Cyber was considered to be the only man Wolverine was afraid of in the comics and he was a powerhouse with all sorts of odd abilities (sometimes poorly defined).

It was also hinted that the Admantium was poisoning Logan. However, he didn’t warn Laura. In the comics it was the Corbidiumn (Russia’s version of Admantium) that had slight radioactive effects and thus why Omega Red had to steal lifeforce from others or it’d kill him. Again, perfect chance to bring in Omega lost.

Generally, X-24 I thought was the worst part of what was an excellent movie. It was the same with Tron Legacy.

It was very, very good. Just wanted to echo others’ recommendations to go out and watch Wonder Woman, too. It’s fantastic!

Oh, and here’s a spoiler free Easter egg, of sorts... you’ll want to come back after watching it and look up what it was WW told Chief when they first meet, and why it is important. It’s a very small, very quick and tangential moment, but it’s a good illustration of the various layers and attention to detail in the movie.
